The Blue Mounds Area Project, a nonprofit conservation organization that advocates for native biodiversity, is seeking a self–motivated and qualified person for a summer position as an outreach ecologist. The Project is headquartered in Mt. Horeb, WI serving a large portion of the 8 Southwestern counties.
Duties
- Conduct site visits of area properties to assess biodiversity and restoration potential. Develop plant inventories and check for invasive species and provide (mostly private) landowners with a short report and advice on management
- Help develop a self–assessment tool for landowners to research their property's natural resources and potential management strategies
- Edit and develop outreach materials, help organize a field trip to area sites, and write newsletter articles
- Assist Military Ridge Prairie Heritage Area Project and other partners
Qualifications
- College level course work in field ecology, botany, biology or related natural resource management
- The successful candidate will have some naturalist, field biology or restoration and land management experience and a desire to meet and work with people
- Solid computer skills a plus
- Candidate must have their own reliable transportation
Compensation
- $15 an hour plus travel reimbursement at 32 cents a mile.
- Approximately a 480 hour, three month appointment beginning in May or June. May be extended.
