About the event
Join Naturalist Cindy Becker and bee specialist Julia Wiessing for a walk at York Prairie State Natural Area - Marbleseed Unit focused around plants and pollinators. York Prairie is a tallgrass prairie with areas of  high-quailty dry-mesic prairie that is home to over 100 species of native prairie plants. This prairie is also home to many rare species, including 8 rare plants, 10 prairie-restricted insects and many grassland birds. York Prairie is owned by the DNR and was designated a State Natural Area in 2002.
Cindy has been working with private landowners in the Driftless Area since 2008, with a focus on promotion and restoration of prairie and savanna. Â She works as the Southern Driftless Grasslands partnership manager, drawing funding and attention to the region's grasslands, prairies, and savannas, and continuing to work with private landowners to protect and restore their lands. She especially loves walking land with folks, sharing her enthusiasm for plants and their values - use, edibility, and medicine - and observing their associated pollinators.
The parking lot for the Marbleseed Unit is at the junction of York Valley Road and Highway 39.Â
